WKD (02) ... World Kigo Database

This database of seasonal words will give us an opportunity to deepen the understanding of kigo issues and to appreciate the climate, life and culture of other parts of the world.

This is an educational site for reference purposes of haiku poets worldwide.

Explanation

Washoku 和食, the traditional food of Japan, is famous for being quite healthy.

Click HERE to have a first good look at Japanese food !

Like a good haiku, washoku is dependent on the seasons for fresh ingredients.
Even the traditional sweets, wagashi (和菓子) have a seasonal component to it.

The Japanese food needs its own saijiki: 和食歳時記!
I will try and compile it here.

Death haiku by Naito Meisetsu

ただ頼む湯婆一つの寒さかな

It is so cold today
That I request only a warm Yuba
To warm up myself now

yuba is the skin of soy milk, a very nutritious food.

Naitoo Meisetsu 内藤鳴雪
